  6. NewsCoaster now requires the very latest TextEditor.mcc (version 15.7) in order for
  7. rot13 decoding to work - otherwise you will not be able to select text properly. This
  8. file is included in the nc_update.lha
  9.  
  10. NewsCoaster is a newsreader, which requires MUI. NewsCoaster is shareware, and
  11. the unregistered version if limited to viewing a maximum of two newsgroups. Please see
  12. the documentation for details on registering.

  18. Known bugs:
  19. - For those upgrading from version 1.25 or earlier:
  20. If you open a View window, then switch the displayed folder to
  21. another folder, you will see that doing 'Prev'/'Next' on the View window moves to the
  22. previous or next message in that original newsgroup - this is fine. But if one of
  23. those messages is an 'Online' message downloaded with a version previous to v1.26, but
  24. the body hasn't been downloaded, then NewsCoaster will not fetch the body. This is
  25. fixed for messages downloaded from now on.

  60. - Faster downloading (possibly up to 35% or more, though this is on a fast connection -
  61.   I suspect modems will experience smaller increases)
  62. - Downloading group list is much faster (about 25 times faster on my very fast
  63.   connection - modems will experience smaller increases)
  64. - Multiple view windows! (must be enabled from Prefs if upgrading from older version)
  65.   (they also behave more sensibly, eg if you switch to a different folder, you can
  66.   read from the old folder by doing Prev/Next on the view window)
  67. - Doubleclick on a message in the search window immediately opens the message without
  68.   need to change the current folder
  69. - Option to read timezone from Locale preferences
  70. - 'Shortcuts' removed on the requesters for Permenant Deleting of all messages (either
  71.   in one or all groups) - just to be safe!

  81. - When downloading news, searching, performing statistics, etc, the currently viewed
  82.   folder no longer changes (this also makes things faster)
  83. - Messages can now be viewed as 'threads' in a tree - note this is experimental and
  84.   doesn't work too well atm.. ('View' menu under 'Messages')
  85. - Doubleclicking works on the 'tree' view for the grouplist. Drag 'n' drop sorting also
  86.   works (but not too well atm)
  87. - Messages marked as 'important' aren't deleted by the 'auto delete after x days'
  88.   option
  89. - Included an updated version of TextEditor.mcc in the archive (though this updated
  90.   isn't required, v15.5 works fine still)
  91. - 'Cancel' buttons have shortcut changed from 'c' to 'a', since Amiga-c is copy in

  111. - Option to trace back through the thread (will not function on messages downloaded
  112.   with a version previous to v1.24)
  113. - Undelete option (will not function correctly on messages downloaded with a version
  114.   previous to v1.24)
  115. - Deleting messages is quicker
  116. - Option to 'permanently delete' messages (messages are deleted straight away rather
  117.   than copied to 'deleted', but this method is much quicker) - either selected messages,
  118.   all messages in a group, or all messages in all groups
  119. - Option to mark messages as 'Important' - these messages are highlighted
  120. - Messages that have been downloaded in online mode, and the body has not yet been
  121.   downloaded, are marked with a '*'.
  122. - When downloading, status window displays newsgroup currently being downloaded
  123. - Bug fix; if the body of a message wasn't found, the file opened for message was not
  124.   deleted, and left 'Open'
  125. - Reports that some other newsreaders interpret 2 digit dates as being in the 1900s -
  126.   NewsCoaster now outputs 4 digit years (NewsCoaster has itself always assumed two digit
  127.   dates of less that 78 to be in the 2000s).

  154. - Killfiles editor now works a bit more intuitively
  155. - Killfiles editor displays creation and last used dates of each killfile
  156. - Option to archive newsgroup messages into a single text file
  157. - More resistance to crashes (before if there was a crash between having downloaded,
  158.   and before quitting, vital information would not get saved meaning next time you
  159.   downloaded, the old messages would be overwritten! There were other similar problems.
  160.   Now this information is saved immediately after downloading, and other vital places.
  161.   Additionally, even if something still messes up, messages should now never overwrite
  162.   existing files.
  163. - Slight improvement in speed when downloading bodies of articles in online mode
  164. - Repeated clicking on column headings switches order of sorting
  165. - Bug fix; crashes related to online viewing

  237.  - New killfile - will detect a number given as the last word in Subject, eg, 'Make
  238. lots of money 1206' Such numbers usually indicate an advert or other off-topic

  241.  - Recognises '|' as a quoting character (before was just '>', ':' and '!').
